Cardiovascular Risk Assessment

Cardiovascular disease refers to any medical condition affecting the blood vessels and heart. If left unchecked, these conditions can lead to health issues such as heart attacks and strokes. Cardiovascular disease is extremely common in New Zealand, accounting for approximately 30% of deaths annually. New Zealand guidelines recommend cardiovascular risk assessment for the following groups:

Maori, Pacific and South Asian men from the age of 30 and women from the age of 40

All other men from age 45 and all other women from age 55

N

People with severe mental illness from age 25

Provide screening tests such as ECG (heart tracing) and blood tests to check for cholesterol and diabetes.

Prescribe appropriate medications to treat and reduce your cardiovascular risk factors.
